UA Learn to Swim Instructor teaches water safety, proper swimming techniques, and water confidence to individuals or groups of varying ages and skill levels. Responsibilities include creating lesson plans, evaluating student progress, maintaining a safe environment, and communicating effectively with participants and parents in and our of the water.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Instruction: Teach water safety, water survival skills, and swimming strokes to children and adults.
- Safety: Maintain constant supervision of students, enforce pool rules, and respond to emergencies.
- Planning: Develop and implement engaging, progressive lesson plans based on skill level.
- Evaluation: Assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and complete progress reports.
- Equipment: Set up, clean, and ensure proper maintenance of swimming aids and pool equipment.
- Communication: Update parents or participants on progress and maintain a positive, welcoming environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Certifications: Valid CPR/AED, First Aid, and Swim Instructor certification (e.g., Red Cross, YMCA).
- Experience: Previous experience working with children or in an aquatics environment is highly preferred.
- Attributes: Patience, enthusiasm, strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate swimmers.
Work Environment
- Indoor or outdoor pools at community centers, fitness clubs, or private swim schools.
- Physical work involving standing for long periods, being in the water, and lifting equipment.
Qualifications
- Minimum current Pro Life Saving certification, Preferred American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or ASCA Level 1 learn to swim / Pro American Life Saving certification.
